So, Thanksgiving 2025 is rolling around, and the question isn't just "what gravy recipe am I going to screw up this year?" but "which stores are preying on the desperate and the lonely?" It's a freakin' holiday, people. A day for gorging yourself until you resemble a bloated tick. But no, gotta keep those registers ringing.

The Usual Suspects

Let's get this straight: Kroger, Sprouts, Whole Foods...they're all in on it. Open with "modified hours." Modified to what? To maximize profits while pretending they're doing you a favor? Give me a break. Is Sprouts open on Thanksgiving Day? Yeah, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., so you can grab that organic kale you forgot while the underpaid employees are dreaming of turkey. What's open and closed on Thanksgiving this year

And don't even get me STARTED on the dollar stores. Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar—they're ALL open, sucking the last bit of holiday cheer out of the atmosphere. I mean, if you're shopping at Dollar General on Thanksgiving, something has gone horribly wrong in your life. I'm not judging, I'm just saying... maybe re-evaluate some choices.

Then you've got Big Lots. Big Lots, open from 9 to 5 on Thanksgiving. Who the hell is buying discount furniture on Thanksgiving? Seriously, is that a thing? Is there some unwritten rule that says your holiday isn't complete without a slightly damaged end table?

CVS and Walgreens are in the mix too, offcourse. Because nothing says "Happy Thanksgiving" like picking up your prescription for anxiety meds while simultaneously feeling anxious about being in a store on Thanksgiving.

The Coffee Conspiracy

Coffee shops. Starbucks, Dunkin', Krispy Kreme... They're ALL open. Fueling the shopping frenzy, one overpriced latte at a time. "Hours may vary by location." Translation: they'll be open as long as there's a sucker willing to pay $6 for a caffeine fix instead of, you know, spending time with their family.

But hey, at least Costco, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Home Depot are closed. Small mercies, I guess.

The Florida Factor

Apparently, Florida is a Thanksgiving shopping free-for-all. Bravo Supermarkets? Open. Fresh Market? Open. Even MORE opportunities to escape your relatives and contribute to the downfall of society! I get it, capitalism gonna capitalism. But shouldn't there be, like, ONE day where we collectively agree to not participate in the consumerist circus? One day where we can just be thankful for what we have without feeling pressured to buy more crap we don't need? Maybe I'm just being a grumpy old man, but the creeping tendrils of commercialism are starting to strangle the last vestiges of genuine human connection.
